The basics

Sound Through Your Pillow, Not Through the Room

A regular speaker pushes sound into the air. Everyone in the room hears it. That is great for music at dinner — not so great at 11 PM when your partner is already asleep.

Lullabar works differently. It sits under your pillow and transmits vibrations into the pillow material itself. Your pillow essentially becomes the speaker — conducting sound toward you while the surrounding air absorbs very little of it.

The result is a personal audio zone that stays close to you. At normal listening volumes, the sound dissipates within inches.

Three steps

From Pillow to Sleep Sounds in 30 Seconds

01

Slide It Under

Place Lullabar between your pillow and pillowcase, near where your ear rests. The 6mm profile is completely invisible — you should not feel it at all.

02

Connect & Play

Pair via Bluetooth 5.3 in seconds. Stream from any app — Spotify, podcasts, Calm, or use 100+ built-in sleep sounds.

03

Drift Off

Set a sleep timer (30, 60 or 90 min) and let the audio fade as you fall asleep. Most people only need sound during sleep onset.

Audio guide

What Sounds Work Best

Pillow conduction excels at certain types of audio. Here is what to expect so you can get the most out of your Lullabar.

Sounds great through a pillow

  • Rain & nature sounds

Low-frequency ambient audio travels beautifully through pillow material.

  • Brown & pink noise

Deep, steady masking sounds are where pillow conduction really shines.

  • Ocean waves & fan sounds

Rhythmic, continuous sounds feel enveloping and immersive.

  • Guided meditations & podcasts

Speech comes through clearly at comfortable volumes.

  • Ambient & lo-fi music

Gentle, bass-forward music sounds warm and cosy.

Good to know

  • Not hi-fi headphones

Lullabar is designed for bedtime, not critical listening. Think cosy and immersive, not studio-grade.

  • Very high-pitched audio may soften

Pillow material naturally absorbs some treble. Most users do not notice.

  • Volume sweet spot matters

Too loud and your partner may notice. Too quiet and you may not hear it. A little calibration the first night goes a long way.

  • Pillow thickness varies results

Thinner, firmer pillows conduct sound most clearly. Very thick or fluffy pillows may soften audio slightly.

Placement & Setup Tips

A little experimentation goes a long way. Here is what our community of 50,000+ sleepers has found works best.

Position near your ear

Place Lullabar underneath your pillow, roughly where your ear rests. Side sleepers: shift it slightly toward the side you sleep on.

Pillow in pillowcase

Sliding Lullabar between your pillow and pillowcase keeps it in place all night. No slipping, no adjusting.

Start at low volume

Begin quiet and raise to a comfortable level. In a quiet room, you need less volume than you think. This also keeps partner disturbance to a minimum.

Use a sleep timer

Most people only need sound while falling asleep. Set the 30, 60, or 90 minute timer and let it fade out naturally. Saves battery too.

Give it two nights

Like a new pillow, it takes a night or two to find your ideal placement and volume. Most users find their sweet spot by night two.

Charge during the day

With 12+ hours of battery, charging once or twice a week during the day is enough. We recommend not charging while under your pillow.

Pillow compatibility

Works With Any Pillow

Lullabar is designed to work with the pillow you already have. Here is how different materials perform.

Memory foam

Excellent

Dense material conducts vibration really well. Clear, rich audio.

Latex

Excellent

Similar to memory foam — firm, consistent contact gives great sound transfer.

Polyester fill

Very good

The most common pillow type. Lullabar works well in standard to medium thickness.

Down & feather

Good

Works well, though very fluffy down pillows may soften the sound a little. Place Lullabar closer to the top surface.

Buckwheat

Very good

Firm and dense — conducts sound nicely. The pillow conforms around the device.

Hybrid / gel

Very good

Most hybrid pillows have a firm-enough core for great sound transfer.

The partner question

“Will My Partner Hear It?”

This is the question we get asked most — and we want to give you an honest answer.

At normal listening volumes (the level that is comfortable for bedtime), your partner should not be disturbed. Sound travels through the pillow toward you and dissipates quickly in the surrounding air. Our users consistently tell us their partners do not notice.

That said, Lullabar is not a pair of sealed headphones. If you turn the volume up high, some sound will be audible to someone lying right next to you. The good news: most masking sounds (rain, brown noise, fans) work beautifully at low-to-moderate levels — you do not need it loud for it to be effective.

Tip: do a quick calibration together. Play your preferred sounds and ask your partner if they can hear anything. Most couples find a volume that works for both on the first night.
